SHAPE America Announces 2023 National Teachers of the Year
in Adapted Physical Education, Health Education, and Physical Education
RESTON, VA, April 19, 2023 — SHAPE America – Society of Health and Physical Educators today announced its 2023 National Teacher of the Year award recipients, five individuals who are among the elite in the areas of adapted physical education, health education, and physical education.
The national award recipients, selected after the state and district competitions were announced during the Closing General Session of the 2023 SHAPE America National Convention & Expo in Seattle.
The 2023 National Teachers of the Year are:
- Adapted Physical Education — Samantha Stewart, Newbury Park High School, Newbury Park, CA
- Health Education — Melissa Quigley, Broadneck High School, Annapolis, MD
- Elementary Physical Education — Randy Spring, Liberty Ridge Elementary School, Woodbury, MN
- Middle School Physical Education — Matthew Bristol, Essex Middle School, Essex Junction, VT
- High School Physical Education — Jordan Manley, STEAM Academy, Lexington, KY
The Teacher of the Year awards are given in recognition of outstanding teaching performance and the ability to motivate today's youth to participate in a lifetime of physical activity. The program is sponsored by the Teacher of the Year Partner Network, which includes Gopher, SPARK, Goodheart-Willcox Publisher and Wellness Training Specialists.
