SHAPE America Announces New Board of Directors

RESTON, VA, April 19, 2023 — SHAPE America – Society of Health and Physical Educators has announced that Cara Grant, preK-12 supervisor for adapted physical education, health, and physical education in Montgomery County Public Schools (Maryland), was recently elected president-elect of the organization. The announcement was made at the SHAPE America National Convention & Expo in Seattle.

Joining Grant as newly elected members on the Board of Directors are Taralyn Garner, retired physical education instructor (Plattsburg, MO); Andrew Milne, kinetic health & wellness teacher at New Trier High School (Winnetka, IL); and William Potter, physical education teacher at Serendipity School (Belmont, CA).

The SHAPE America Board of Directors also includes: President Sarah Benes, Southern Connecticut State University (CT); Past President Kymm Ballard, Campbell University (NC); Joe Deutsch, North Dakota State University (ND); Victor Ramsey, New York Department of Education (NY); Robin Richardson, Jefferson County Public Schools (KY); Luciana Zuest, Towson University (MD); and Stephanie A. Morris, SHAPE America CEO.

As a national spokesperson for SHAPE America, Grant will promote well-designed physical education, physical activity, and health education programs, and will lend expertise for the inclusion of social and emotional learning for children and the importance of well-being and physical activity for everyone.

In addition to her role with Montgomery County Public Schools, Grant coordinates the Physical Education Master’s Certification Program at the University of Maryland College Park. She has an Ed.D. in educational leadership with a focus on curriculum and instruction, a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction, and an undergraduate degree in kinesiology. Grant has served and supported SHAPE Maryland and was a member of the SHAPE America Board of Directors prior to becoming president-elect.
