SHAPE America Research Council Newsletter

Spring 2024

Greetings!

Welcome to the spring edition of Research in Motion! The biggest news from this past quarter was the success of #SHAPECleveland, held from March 12-16. The Research Council was proud to facilitate 144 research presentations, 19 posters at the Works in Progress session, the Graduate Student Forum, and two Coffee Talk sessions.

We also hosted three scholar lectures, inducted five new Research Fellows, and announced the recipient of the Research Council Distinguished Service Award. Additionally, two winners (graduate student and early career investigator) of the Thomas McKenzie Research Grant were presented at the convention. All these accomplishments were celebrated at our Research Council Social attended by more than 50 members of SHAPE America’s research community, from graduate students to full professors!

Whether you attended the convention or not, we hope this newsletter and the are useful resources for you to stay connected and get involved between now and the in Baltimore.

Transitions in the Research Council

The national convention marks the transition of roles on the Research Council. This year, Weidong Li will serve as the chair and Tan Leng Goh transitions to the role of past chair. We also welcome three new professional members to the Research Council — Heather Erwin, Emi Tsuda and Collin Webster — as well as one new graduate student member, Alexander Kurtzman. Finally, doctoral student Dimetrius Brandon becomes the voting graduate student member. Tan Zhang continues their service as council member.

We want to extend our gratitude to Paul Wright, Nancy Getchell, Kevin Richards, and graduate student member Nicolette Smith. All of them have provided impressive and impactful service.
