Jumping Form

Objective:

To determine quality of movement.

Procedure:

The student jumps a distance of 6 feet.

  • The assessor observes the movement and rates it according to the rubric below.
  • Examiner is positioned in such a way to observe all parts of the movement.

Scoring:

Record the number that represents the students’ quality of movement. Examiner may request that the student jump additional lengths as needed. Record the score in the space provided.

    • Series of jumps over a distance of 6′
    • Maintains good bilateral coordination throughout
    • Slight forward lean as student jumps
    • Preparatory movement of bent knees & ankles
    • Body absorbs impact – execution is repetitive
  • 3
    • Torso has no forward lean
    • Over/under use of arms to complete jump
    • Pattern slightly inconsistent but still effective
    • Absorbs contact most of the time
  • 2
    • Pattern begins with forward lean and good bilateral coordination but breaks down after 3 or 4 jumps
    • Movement is labored
    • Pattern is inconsistent
  • 1
    • Poor execution
    • Poor bilateral coordination
    • Many inconsistencies to accomplish task

    • Unable to perform skill
