Could Federal Education Funding Help You Attend #SHAPECharlotte?
Did you know your school or district may have federal funding available to support professional development for health and physical educators?
Two potential funding sources worth exploring are Title II, Part A and Title IV, Part A of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).
Title II, Part A — Supporting Effective Instruction
Title II, Part A supports teacher effectiveness and professional learning. Ask your school or district whether available funds could support professional development at #SHAPECharlotte that aligns with district priorities and an ongoing professional learning plan.
Title IV, Part A — Student Support and Academic Enrichment
Title IV, Part A supports well-rounded education and safe, healthy learning environments, including initiatives related to health and physical education. Ask whether professional learning focused on strengthening HPE instruction and student wellness could qualify for support.
How to Get Started
- Find out who manages federal funding. Start with your principal, HPE coordinator, professional development director, or district federal programs coordinator.
- Ask about available funds. Find out whether Title II or Title IV funding could support your professional learning goals.
- Make your case. Use SHAPE America’s Justification Toolkit to explain how attending #SHAPECharlotte aligns with district priorities and how you’ll apply and share what you learn.
- Start early! Funding decisions and travel approvals can take time, so begin the conversation now.
